In Memory of Phyllis Kohn

Release Date: August 21, 2014

DVAEYC is profoundly sad to share news of the passing of our colleague Phyllis Kohn. Phyllis just celebrated her 15th anniversary with DVAEYC and was a relentless advocate for high quality early learning for all children. Throughout her tenure with this organization she worked with hundreds of programs and practitioners –guiding them to think deeply about their work with young children, and moving continuously toward best practices.

Phyllis was a 23+ year survivor of breast cancer. She was a tenacious fighter, refusing to give in to illness. She was at her desk working diligently just two weeks ago, bringing everything she had to this work, which she understood to be critically important for children, families, and professionals. In the words of one our colleagues, She was one of the most knowledgeable, kindest, helpful friends ever... We're so sorry for this loss, she was such a wonderful part of our ECE family.

DVAEYC will be honoring the life and work of Phyllis in several ways in coming weeks and months. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to DVAEYC and the Susan G. Komen Foundation.
