ABOUT PECE

In a recent advocacy victory, in June of 2013 a new group, Philadelphia for Early Childhood Education (PECE), worked with city council, the mayor, and private philanthropy to build a private/public partnership supporting quality early childhood education. (In 2012 the City lost funds it had been allocating to help non-profit child care providers pay for capital expenses.) The group won approval for a $500,000 investment from the City of Philadelphia, which, along with a $500,000 grant from the William Penn Foundation, represents a new resource for expanding quality in the city.

PECE was integral in securing the money for the Facilities Fund. We know this fund is only the beginning of what is needed to support the true cost of quality care for young children in Philadelphia. Together we can build on the initial success we’ve had to get support for all programs that need help to provide quality early care and education. PECE is a collaboration of parents, grandparents, teachers, providers and advocacy groups committed to increasing resources for quality early childhood education.
