2017 marks 50 years that the Delaware Valley Association for the Education of Young Children (DVAEYC) has successfully championed high quality early care and education for children from birth to age 8 in Southeastern Pennsylvania.
Founded by a group of influential and progressive early childhood educators in the 1960s, our organization was originally called Delaware Valley Association of Nursery and Kindergarten Educators (DVANKE). In 1967, we affiliated with the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) and proudly became known as DVAEYC, which today is a name synonymous with child advocacy across the Delaware Valley.
In recent years DVAEYC team helps hundreds of early childhood programs reach national accreditation standards. Our statewide grassroots advocacy network motivates more than 3,000 individuals and organizations to work each day to influence public policy that supports increased public sector investment in early learning programs. And every year, the DVAEYC Annual Conference draws more than 1,500 people, gathering and growing alongside fellow educators and professionals as part of the largest early childhood convention in the Mid-Atlantic region.
